Local Goverment

East Grinstead is administered by three levels of local government. A lot of people find the distinctions confusing, so hopefully the following will help.

Closest to home is East Grinstead Town Council. They are based at East Court and are responsible for local amenities like East Court itself, Chequer Mead and the Parish Halls. Also burial grounds, allotments, open spaces and tourist information. For a full list, see their website. EGTC has been Liberal Democrat run since 1995.

The next tier is Mid Sussex District Council, based in Haywards Heath. The district stretches from East Grinstead in the north, down to the South Downs. Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and the surrounding villages are all part of the district. MSDC are responsible for social housing, leisure services, collecting council tax, environmental health, refuse collection, planning and economic development. For more information, see their website. MSDC is controlled by the Conservatives with Lib Dem minority group, many of whom represent wards in East Grinstead.

The final tier is West Sussex. West Sussex County Council provide services like education, highways, social services, libraries and waste disposal. More information at their website. WSCC is controlled by the Conservatives with a Lib Dem minority group. There are three WSCC seats in East Grinstead. Currently all of therm are held by Conservatives.
